Characteristics of a Labrador Retriever
There are three basic colors that Labrador Retrievers have – black, chocolate brown and yellow. There are different shades of chocolate and yellow Labrador retrievers, but the black ones are just simply black. If you find some Labrador Retrievers with patches of white on their chest, then this is just normal.
In order to protect them from the cold and water, Labrador Retrievers have 2 layers of hair coats. The Labrador’s first coat keeps it dry and warm and it is a soft coat. The outer coat is a harder one which is quite water repellent. Water comes right off the dog when it comes out of the water. The dog is kept warm with the first coat.
When hunting, Labrador Retrievers are great to bring along. Fetching things like toys or birds shot during hunting is what a Labrador is good at. Even if you want something fetched which is in the water, the Labrador Retriever will not have a problem swimming out in the water to fetch it for you. They actually love swimming in the water. However, you should never subject your dog to freezing cold water but only in the normal atmosphere.
Many Americans love Labrador Retrievers. They are very popular as household pets. It is great to have a Labrador as a pet. Labradors love to be around people and they are great with children.
Labrador Retrievers fall into the category or medium to large sized dogs since their average weight is 50 to 80 pounds.
Labrador Retrievers cannot actually be trusted as a watchdog. But, their size and their bark can scare people away. But the truth is that they are very friendly and will not be able to stop thieves from stealing your valuables.
