Characteristics of a Labrador Retriever

There are three basic colors that Labrador Retrievers have – black, chocolate brown and yellow. There are different shades of chocolate and yellow Labrador retrievers, but the black ones are just simply black. If you find some Labrador Retrievers with patches of white on their chest, then this is just normal.

In order to protect them from the cold and water, Labrador Retrievers have 2 layers of hair coats. The Labrador’s first coat keeps it dry and warm and it is a soft coat. The outer coat is a harder one which is quite water repellent. Water comes right off the dog when it comes out of the water. The dog is kept warm with the first coat.
